A little over an hour after ringing in the New Year, Graciela Martinez and Alejandro Regalado of Greeley welcomed their new baby boy into the world.
Alejandro Regalado, who shares his father’s name, was the first baby born at UCHealth Greeley in 2026, making his grand debut at 1:01 a.m.
Martinez was actually at her mom’s house, celebrating her sister’s birthday on New Year’s Eve, when she realized she needed to go to the hospital at around 10:30 p.m.
“I called my husband and I’m like, get ready,” Martinez said.
Regalado weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19.5 inches.
“Obviously, it wasn’t planned or anything but that’s pretty cool,” Martinez said of delivering UCHealth Greeley Hospital’s first baby of 2026. “Thank God, we’re actually doing really well.”
If all goes according to plan, Martinez should be able to go home Friday morning with her newborn.
Martinez and Regalado will receive a gift basket with baby clothing, blankets and various other items from the hospital.
UCHealth Greeley Hospital delivered 730 babies in 2025.
