CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — With New Year’s Eve snow covering Bristol Mountain, young skiers are taking advantage of the conditions. They are receiving tips from three professional skiers who may compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Winter Vinecki, along with fellow U.S. Ski Team members Derek Krueger and Chris Lillis, spent the day training at Bristol Mountain. The athletes are preparing for the Milan Cortina Games, with just over a month to go.

“Leading up to this Olympics, it’s every day matters,” Vinecki said.

The skiers have four World Cup competitions left, with two in Canada and two in Lake Placid, N.Y. These events will determine their Olympic qualification.

Chris Lillis, a Pittsford native who won a gold medal in the mixed team aerials event at the 2022 Beijing Games, is also training at Bristol Mountain.

“I’ve been coming to Bristol for the last 24 years in my life. I’m 27, so grew up skiing here. Started when I was three, joined the Bristol freestyle team when I was six,” Lillis said. “Since I’ve been on the U.S. Ski Team, I’ve always loved coming back and engaging with the kids, seeing what they’re up to,” Lillis said.

The Winter Olympics will be broadcast on News10NBC starting Feb. 6.
