UK nationalist parties sell patriotic merchandise made in… Pakistan and China ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

Two nationalist political parties are selling merchandise made outside of the UK, despite calling for British manufacturing to be protected from foreign imports, it can be revealed.

Advance UK, which has been publicly backed by former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson and tech billionaire Elon Musk, advertises its branded clothing as “produced in the UK”.

While Britain First promises “the protection of British companies… from unfair foreign imports” as one of their campaign policies.

However, an investigation by The i Paper reveals hats, T-shirts and jumpers branded with the parties’ logos and sold on their websites were all made outside of the UK, in countries including Pakistan and China.

Labour Behind the Label, a campaign group that monitors exploitation and unfair practises in the textile industry, responded to our findings, saying the two anti-immigration parties are misguided.

“Their decision to source from cheap overseas factories – seemingly with little or no due diligence reflects the overall superficial commitment of these parties to justice, truth and fairness,” said Dominique Muller, their policy lead.

The findings come after this paper reported Reform UK was using an official “Made in Britain” logo on their merchandise without permission from the organisations that represent the two leading Made in Britain trademark schemes.

‘Produced in the UK’

Advance UK became a registered political party in December and claims to have gained more than 30,000 members since launching in early 2025. It positions itself as a burgeoning rival to Reform, setting out on its website how it differs from Nigel Farage’s party.

Leader Ben Habib has called for the UK to “onshore” all industries “from steel, to food, to energy”. Writing on X, he said: “A way to protect our producers is to impose tariffs on imports… Put first the UK, not producers in China and Germany”.

But like Reform and many other parties, they have an online shop where supporters can buy items, the profits of which help support the party.

A Union Jack is displayed on the online shop alongside the words, “Produced in Great Britain”.

Advance UK’s hats are made in China. The branded polo shirt is made in either Pakistan or Bangladesh while the party uses a UK-based company to print its logo on the merchandise

The labels on two hats purchased by The i Paper say they are made in China while the T-shirt’s label does not say where it is made but provides a brand name. This company makes all its items in either Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Advance UK said they use a UK-based company for all of their printing but they will now be “amending their messaging to make the manufacturing details of the merchandise clearer”, and will look to try to source British-made items if possible going forward.

A party spokesperson added: “As you’ll be aware, much manufacturing no longer takes place in the UK, but I appreciate your point that this could be made clearer and we are very happy to adapt our messaging to make this explicit.

“Investing in the UK is a significant priority for Advance UK and something we are firmly committed to.”

The parties’ profile was boosted after Musk posted on X saying: “Advance UK will actually drive change”. The tech billionaire had retweeted support for the party from anti-Islam activist Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. In October the Daily Mail exposed Robinson’s own patriotic merchandise was made in the majority Muslim country of Bangladesh.

He did not respond to the newspaper at the time of its investigation and continued to advertise the Union Jack patterned clothing to his millions of followers.

Britain First, apart from their merchandise

Britain First, a far-right, anti-Islam party, which has called for the mass deportation of migrants, sells a variety of items and clothing.

A T-shirt purchased by The i Paper from their online shop states on its label that it was made in the Dominican Republic.

Another item, a jumper with the party’s logo on its front, is made in Pakistan, a majority Muslim country which Britain First and its two leaders have posted offensive statements about.

This includes comments on X such as “Bradford has become a mini version of Pakistan. I predict it will become the first town in the UK to declare itself a caliphate” and “A beach in Camber Sands, Sussex, looks like a beach in the Congo or Pakistan! Britain First would fund billions for the logistics of mass deportations to send millions of immigrants back to where they come from! Enough is enough!”.

Britain First does not claim their items are made in the UK, but its party policies include a commitment to the “protection of British companies and industries from unfair foreign imports in certain areas where competition is not on an equal footing”.

It adds: “British workers cannot be expected to lower their wages to the level of, for example, Vietnam or India, in order to ‘compete’. Therefore, we support free trade only among first world nations with similar economic metrics to Britain.”

When approached for comment, Paul Golding, one of the leaders, responded with “GO F**K YOURSELF”.
