I woke up feeling sluggish and ill, so my apologies for a later-than-usual BN Bears Bullets on a Tuesday morning. I’ve taken enough drugs and have a cup of hot water with lemon and honey by my side. So thanks in advance for your patience with me today.
Congrats are in order to the fantasy football league winners among you. Bears tight end Colston Loveland helped me clinch the title in the ESPN league I’m in — which felt impossible when you consider that I entered the playoffs as the last seed with a 6-8 record who needed a points tie-breaker to make it in the first place. You know what they say: “Don’t let Luis get hot.” May Chicago’s football team have the same good fortune in the playoffs that I did. The newest episode of the Bleacher Nation Bears podcast is out. Even though Chicago lost in Week 17, we had a ton of fun discussing how we felt when we learned that the Bears were the division champs, sorted through the team’s playoff possibilities, and discussed some defensive issues that need to be cleaned up now (and in the future). So give it a listen when you get a chance. Thanks for checking it out and we’ll see you next year.CHECK OUT EPISODE XV OF THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Jeff Agrest shares the news (via Twitter/X) that FOX is sending its A-Team broadcast of Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews, and Tom Rinaldi to Soldier Field for the Week 18 matchup between the Bears and Lions. This is the fifth time that the NFL on FOX is sending its top crew to see the Bears, which is a sure sign that this team is good. Plus, it will be this group’s third trip to Soldier Field. That’s neat. Because you care: The Bears are 3-1 when FOX sends its top broadcast unit to call their games. Quarterback Caleb Williams is 73-for-129 (56.6%) for 927 yards with 8 touchdowns and 1 interception in those games. For those of you who don’t have a QB passer rating calculator on hand, that comes out to a 96.6 passer rating. Also worth sharing are Williams’ 6.2 TD% and 0.8 INT%. For what it’s worth, Caleb has played well in these games. No wonder Tom Brady speaks so glowingly about Chicago’s QB. Caleb Williams is pressured by Packers DE Kingsley Enagbare at Soldier Field. | © Mark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter/X) the Packers have claimed defensive lineman Jonathan Ford off the waiver wire from the Bears. Chicago put Ford on waivers after activating rookie offensive lineman Luke Newman from injured reserve. Ford, a Green Bay seventh-round pick in 2022, has played more games with the Bears (12) than with the team that drafted him (0). I imagine the Packers scooped him off the waiver wire in hopes of snagging any useful intel ahead of a potential rubbermatch between the two teams in the playoffs. Sneaky, sneaky! There has been plenty of chatter about why Caleb Williams didn’t throw to D’Andre Swift in the flat on that fateful final play of Week 17. I didn’t think Williams had a passing lane. Plus, there was a defender who appeared to be in man coverage who had an angle on Swift had he been the recipient of a target. Anyway, Marquee’s Nicholas Moreano shares a quote from Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson explaining that Swift wasn’t really an option on that play:“Yeah, I mean, with everything that was going on, I don’t see that as a potential option. I think there was a little bit more chaos than what you would like in a situation like that. So, you know, I think Caleb did what he could to make chicken salad out of it, you know.”
This is a bummer of an up#Bears LB Noah Sewell, who has been a key part of the defense especially with all the injuries to the position, is believed to have torn his Achilles, sources say. He'll have an MRI to confirm.Right before he was to play his brother, #Lions OT Penei Sewell, Noah is out. pic.twitter.com/1ADMxtKHs7
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 29, 2025 Bears linebacker Noah Sewell played 13 games (and made nine starts) this season. He collected 59 total tackles (33 solo), 3 tackles-for-loss, and 1 forced fumble. In addition to his work as a linebacker, Sewell appeared on 44 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. A fifth-round pick in 2023, Sewell will begin his fourth season in Chicago in 2026 working his way back from injury.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
