An Illinois lottery player accidentally purchased a ticket online and went on to win big just before the New Year.
Holly, from Johnston City, Illinois, accidentally bought a $20 Magnificent Multiplier, winning the FastPlay jackpot of $250,000.
“I meant to buy the $2 Booming Bucks,” she told the Illinois Lottery. “I was watching a movie and accidentally selected the $20 ticket.”
She said she didn’t want to spend $20, but was stunned when she learned what her purchase landed.
FastPlay tickets do not require selecting numbers and there’s no waiting to find out if you win.
“I was sitting at my desk in my home office,” she said. “I honestly thought my computer had crashed.”
When she went to tell her husband, he also couldn’t believe it.
“Before I could even show him the ticket, he said, ‘It’s so late—did you make a meme?’” she said. “I told him, ‘No silly—I won the jackpot!’”
The retired Illinois teacher said she plans to use her new winnings to build a family home and purchase a baby grand piano to continue to pursue her passion for music.
