A round of snow expected Tuesday has led to travel warnings just before the New Year’s Eve holiday.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow is expected to hit parts of the Chicago area Tuesday afternoon and early evening, just in time for rush hour commuters.
While the snow isn’t expected to amount to much it “could result in hazardous road conditions, particularly untreated roads,” the NWS warned.
“Plan accordingly if traveling later today or this evening,” the agency wrote on X.
The snow is expected to hit on a line from Rockford to Rensselaer, with only about a half in to an inch of accumulation.
A second round of light snow is expected New Year’s Eve as well.
This round could bring another half inch to an inch of snow to the region through the afternoon and evening hours, coming to an end before midnight, according to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack.
New Year’s Eve stays cold, with temperatures sitting in the teens around midnight and wind chill values in the single digits expected.
