Saved as a young child, Mrs. Marie Gregory Jones age 98 of Lebanon, ended her earthly journey to begin her walk with her Savior on Saturday afternoon December 27, 2025 at the American House Senior Living in Lebanon. With her family at her bedside, she was pronounced deceased at 3:09 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Lebanon.

Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon December 30th at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Richardson officiating. Burial will follow beside her husband Raymond, in the Garden of The Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

The Jones family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Tuesday December 30th from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. services.

Born Margie Marie Gregory in the Pleasant Shade Community on September 10, 1927, she was one of six children, three daughters and three sons of the late Morgan Fitzpatrick “Pat” Gregory who died in May of 1963 at the age of 60 and Fannie Lee Miller Gregory who died February 20, 1978 at the age of 77.

Mrs. Jones son-in-law, Thomas Paul Stephens, died of pancreatic cancer on June 24, 2022 at the age of 77.

All five of her siblings preceded her in death, two sisters, Evaline Gregory Leach who died at the age of 61 on July 23, 1984, Kate Lee Gregory Poindexter who died at the age of 77 on February 14, 2000 and three brothers, Robert Hickerson “Hick” Gregory who died at the age of 49 on November 25,1974, Clarence Edward Gregory who died at the age of 63 on February 28, 1984 and John Beasley Gregory who died at the age of 50 on April 15, 1986.

After her confession of being saved, Mrs. Jones was baptized into the full fellowship of the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in the Pleasant Shade Community as a young girl and where she remained a member until her death.

She was united in marriage to Pleasant Shade Community native Raymond Jones on December 24, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 16,1998 at the age of 73, eight days before their forty-ninth anniversary.

At the age of 24 she was employed by the former Southern Bell Telephone Co. as switchboard operator at the former telephone office on Fite Avenue East in Carthage before the advent of rotary telephones.

After the development of rotary phones and the closing of the Carthage office, she was transferred to the Lebanon office where she retried from the A. T. & T. in 1990 with thirty-eight and one-half years of dedicated, loyal service.

Following her retirement from A.T. & T., she was employed at the Carthage Wal-Mart in the fabric department, retiring there in 2009 at the age of 82.

Surviving her are her two daughters, Betty Jones Stephens and Kathy Jones Watkins and husband Ronald, all of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Amy Stephens Hodge and husband Chris, John Stephens and wife Sophia all of Lebanon, Heath Watkins and wife Becky of Gordonsville; five great-grandchildren, Madison and Eli Hodge, Cody and Bentley Stephens, Phillip Watkins.

The family has requested memorials to the Jordan Hackett Foundation.
