ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Boys and Girls Club of Rochester is hosting Kwanzaa celebrations from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, marking the fourth day of the holiday. Monday’s theme is “Cooperative Economics.”
Sunday, the Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition held events focusing on the theme of “Collective Work and Responsibility.” This theme emphasizes building and maintaining community, solving problems together, and sharing burdens. It is often symbolized by lighting the first green candle.

“So Kwanzaa is always centered around unity, we have the different principles, but they also tying to each other, and they tied into the first day, which is unity. Collective work and responsibility is understanding the concept as a community that were responsible for each other and we should work each other to help each other through all of each other’s problems,” said Paul Adell Jr, Chairman of the Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition.
Kwanzaa continues through Jan. 1, with a different theme each day.
