During a conversation with daughters Alex Drummond Scott and Paige Drummond Andersen at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, the Food Network star admitted that, like any home cook, she’s had her share of kitchen mishaps. This time, however, one memorable fail ended up being featured on the show.
In a YouTube video from the event, Paige asked her mother, "What dish do you highly regret ever showing the world on your show?" Drummond then shared a story that illustrated the challenges of creating original recipes.
"The production company would come out five times a year," Drummond began. "They would stay three weeks at a time and we would film eight episodes, about 40 shows a year."
Drummond continued, "What I had in mind was, in the early days of California Pizza Kitchen, they used to have fried chicken pizza. In my mind, I was going to make these little popcorn chicken nuggets and make a homemade crust."
Drummond was asked if she minded using a ready-made crust and frozen chicken strips as part of the recipe. She agreed, although it was a departure from her original idea.
