ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Threat Tracker has Monday with a Red Alert for a strong and damaging wind threat, and then a Yellow Alert for shifting bands of lake effect snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our first concern will be the wind threat Monday. Gusts to 50mph will develop during the morning with the peak winds arriving midday into mid afternoon. Wind gusts 50-60mph likely early afternoon with possible higher gusts near and over the westside, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming Counties. Downed trees and power outages a concern with the high winds. The strongest winds will ease later this afternoon but some gusts over 40mph will continue into tonight.

With the strong winds some lake effect snow will develop this afternoon with temps quickly falling into the 20s. Be prepared for changeable winer weather conditions to quickly develop later today and tonight with snow covered and icy roads with local lake effect and blowing snow at times. A couple inches likely with more near the lakes.

Yellow Alert Tuesday and Wednesday for wintry weather as cold winds and lake snows continue into midweek. Tuesday morning some lake snow will bring tough conditions near and north of Rt.104 in Monroe and Wayne County. Several inches of snow and blowing snow likely to start the day. Lake flakes will ease some during the day but redevelop into the evening with more accumulations into Wednesday. Parts of Wayne and Wyoming Counties may see over a foot of snow with several inches for much of the region. Cold weather but calmer conditions arrive to start the New Year.
