Lattakia, Dec. 28 (SANA) Three people were killed and 60 others injured on Sunday during protests in Lattakia, after attacks by remnants of the deposed regime targeted security forces and civilians, the Health Directorate said in a statement to SANA.
The directorate said the injuries that reached hospitals included knife wounds, injuries from stones, and gunshot wounds, inflicted by remnants of the deposed regime against security personnel and citizens.
It added that two ambulances were put out of service after being attacked and vandalized while responding to the incidents, confirming that medical teams continue to provide necessary care to the injured and to handle emergency cases.
Since the fall of the deposed regime, its remnants’ ability to mobilize popular support has declined, despite repeated attempts to reappear under the guise of protest movements. With the waning of public momentum and the failure of previous demonstrations to produce political impact, these groups have turned to escalation through civilian fronts, employing incendiary rhetoric and divisive slogans, and attempting to drag the street toward violence.
Recent developments indicate a shift from incitement to the use of weapons, targeting members of the security forces and the army, and vandalizing public property, in an effort to exploit security tensions and create a state of chaos presented as a “civil movement.” In essence, however, this reflects an attempt to destabilize the state and reactivate the influence of the remnants of the deposed regime through far more dangerous means.
