ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The $6.2 million project to paint Rochester’s Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge is now complete, according to Governor Kathy Hochul, on Friday.

The bridge carries Interstate 490 over the Genesee River in Rochester.

The project involved removing paint from the three main arches and 12 braces. It was replaced with multiple coats of zinc and epoxy-based paint, meant to add integrity against the weather, preventing the steel from wearing and corroding while reducing maintenance.

“This work on the Douglass-Anthony Memorial Bridge ensures that it will continue to serve as a gateway into the City of Rochester and carry residents and visitors across the Genesee River well into the future,” Governor Hochul said.

The new paint applications are expected to last 10 to 15 years before another paint project is needed. It is the first preemptive maintenance project on the city’s bridge since its completion in 2007.
