ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Christmas is over, but the holiday festivities continue in the Rochester area. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate the season with family in town, or show them around Rochester, we have your guide to events on Friday and this weekend.

Final days of Roc Holiday Village (through Sunday)

There are only a few days left of Roc Holiday Village in downtown Rochester. The winter village at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is open through Sunday, Dec. 28. There are still plenty of activities planned at the seventh annual winter village, including shopping, ice skating, and live music. You can see a full schedule here.

On all three remaining days, there will be free crafts for kids at the Gingerbread House. Scouting America will host Friday’s crafts from 4 to 8 p.m. After that, Saturday’s crafts from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. will also include face painting. On Sunday, there will be a celebration of Three Kings’ Day that includes crafts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be live music.

After Christmas, Santa’s Workshop in the village transforms into an arcade game showcase. The Rec Room includes classic games like Big Buck Hunter, Skeeball, Super Chexx, basketball, air hockey, pinball, and griver games. It’s open from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, then 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

There are also two nights left of live music at the Triple O Lodge. Beggars Will Ride, a father and son duo that’s grown into a full band, will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday. Then, the Joey Stempien Quintet will perform tunes from a Charlie Brown Christmas from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

There’s also one last ticketed Paint and Sip event on Saturday inside the Gingerbread House. People can get beer, wine, hard cider, non-alcoholic drinks, and more at the bar, then paint away. Each ticket includes one complimentary drink. You can get tickets here. The event runs from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Kwanzaa celebrations (through Thursday, Jan. 1)

Kwanzaa is underway. The Rochester community is celebrating with events throughout the seven days. The Pan-African holiday celebrates a different principle each day. It aims to highlight the history and culture of people of African descent, past and present.

For the first day on Friday, the Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition will hold a celebration at the Rochester City Hall atrium. It runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and will celebrate the prinical of Umoja “unity”. The event will feature music, dance, vendors, and a special tribute to honor a community elder. Here’s the rest of the schedule for Kwanzaa.

Day two: Celebrates Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) on Sunday, Dec 27. There will be an event at the Kate Gleason Auditorium within the Central Library of Rochester on South Clinton Avenue. It runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Day three: Celebrates Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility) on Sunday, Dec. 28. There will be an event at the Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center on North Clinton Avenue. It runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Day four: Celebrates Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) on Monday, Dec. 29. There will be an event at the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester on Genesee Street. It runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Day five: Celebrates Nia (Purpose) on Tuesday, Dec. 30. There will be an event at the Adams Street R-Center on Adams Street. It runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Day six: Celebrates Kuumba (Creativity) on Wednesday, Dec. 31. There will be a Feast and Fashion Show at the David F. Gantt R-Center on North Street. It runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Day seven: Celebrates Imani (Faith) on Thursday, Jan. 1. Celebrated at home with family.

Ice skating at MLK Park

The season of ice skating continues at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, with special hours for Roc Holiday Village. The ice rink is open from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, weather permitting.

The rink will stay open through Sunday, March 8, weather permitting. It’s closed on New Year’s Day. Last year, USA Today ranked the rink at MLK Park as the third-best outdoor ice rink in the nation, based on votes from readers and a panel of experts.
