Even though Chicago’s football team has already clinched its first posseason appearance since 2020, there is still much to play for in these final two games. So let’s explore the Bears’ playoff scenarios entering Week 17.

TAKE THE NORTH
The Chicago Bears’ magic number to clinch the NFC North title is 1. That’s it. One. A Bears win on Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers or a victory in Week 18 against the Detroit Lions will clinch Chicago’s football team its first division crown since 2018. Making the postseason as a division winner locks in at least one (1) home playoff game and a spot among the top four seeds.

At this point, the only way the Bears would not win the NFC North crown is if they lose both of their final two games *AND* if the Green Bay Packers win both of their remaining contests. So in addition to cheering for the Bears the next two weeks, you can add the Baltimore Ravens (Week 17 on the road against the Packers) and Minnesota Vikings (Week 18 at home versus Green Bay) to your rooting interests in the season’s final two weeks.

The best-case senario for the 2025 Chicago Bears is still in play. There is still a path for the Bears to make it into the playoffs as the conference’s No. 1 seed. That hasn’t happened for Chicago’s football team since 2006 when it went to Super Bowl XLI. It would be neat to see this team capture the flag and be the NFC’s top team going into the playoffs. Getting that bye could set up first-year Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson from a schematic perspective and give some injured players more time to get to full strength.

In order to make it as the No. 1 seed, the Bears need help. The team needs to win out and get at least one loss from the Seattle Seahawks, who currently hold the No. 1 spot. Seattle travels out east to face the Carolina Panthers. Wouldn’t it be something if the Panthers did the Bears a solid and toppled the Seahawks? Two intertwined franchises who will forever be connected because of the Caleb Williams trade making it into the playoffs in the same year just three seasons after pulling off that swap would be a fun storyline to discuss.

There is also a scenario in which the Bears clinch at least the No. 2 seed this weekend. A win against the 49ers on SNF or a loss by the Philadelphia Eagles on the road against the Buffalo Bills. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Bills fans, so this is an easy one for me to root for in this instance.

Losing out puts the Bears in the wild card game. Which, while fine, would not be great when you consider where they are now.
