Alix Earle's time on "Dancing With the Stars [DWTS]" was no easy feat. It came with early mornings, intense rehearsals, and, of course, the pressure of performing on live TV. Earle leaned on grounding rituals, recovery routines, and a tight-knit support system to get through one of the most demanding chapters of her career. She developed CHANGE REPEAT WORD [routines] that helped her stay present, confident, and connected - even with all the outside noise.
Ahead, Earle opens up to Popsugar about what helped her calm her nerves backstage, she reflects on how the experience shaped her confidence, and she dives into how DWTS reinforced her belief that showing up authentically is always the best approach.
Popsugar: Your glam on "Dancing With the Stars" was consistently flawless. What did a typical glam schedule look like on show days? Alix Earle: Glam started for me at 5:30 in the morning because I would wake up, wash my spray tan off, wash my hair with the Pantene Abundant and Strong Shampoo and Conditioner ($50), then we got into hair and makeup at 7:00 AM. It depended on the week, but you're getting touch-ups until right before the 5:00 PM show. It's a lot.
PS: How was the glam direction decided each week? AE: I was able to choose. I would go through Pinterest and pull different inspiration and different looks. The team was very, very amazing to work with; they made everything in my vision come to life.
PS: Were you running those looks by anyone else? AE: It was really just me, the team, and then Val. A lot of times I would like a certain hairstyle and he would say, 'That's not something you can really dance with - you need to have your hair pulled back somewhat.' Val was usually the one fighting me on the options that I was pulling and making them a little bit more danceable.
PS: Did you have a favorite hair look from the season? AE: I loved the one we did for Rock and Roll Night. It was a half-up, half-down crimpy bun in the back with little wispy pieces in the front. We actually cut my hair on the day of the show because I really wanted Pamela-Anderson–style wispy bangs and didn't have them, so I just let Brittany, who was doing my hair, go ahead and chop a few pieces. I ended up really liking it.

PS: Did you have any backstage rituals that helped you reset before going live? AE: I usually would have a moment with Val where we'd hold hands and reinforce that we were good, great, and ready to go out there. Having those grounding moments and a little bit of breath work always did the job for us.
PS: Was there any specific mantra you said to yourself? AE: I always said that we're just on a floating rock and nothing matters, so it's okay. Anything we do out there is gonna work and be fine because we're on a floating rock.
PS: If you had to build an emergency beauty kit for surviving live TV - one hair item, one makeup item, and one random item - what would you pick? AE: For hair, I would use the Pantene Abundant and Strong Daily Scalp Serum ($24). For makeup, I would use my Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara ($29). And a tequila shot.
PS: You're very open about being emotional online. Was it hard navigating big emotions while also being on live TV? AE: What I learned throughout this process was to just let your raw emotions take place in the moment. There were a few different times where I was crying on camera, and I felt a little embarrassed about it in the beginning, but I learned how much that resonated with people and brought me closer to them. I try to let myself feel whatever I'm authentically feeling in the moment and not hide it.
PS: Did doing "Dancing With the Stars" change how you see yourself or your confidence on camera? AE: I think I grew a lot as a person and emotionally matured during that time. I'm showing up as a better, more confident, new and improved version of myself and leading with being real and authentic, because that's how I got started in all of this in the first place.
PS: Did the experience unlock anything creatively that you want to bring into your content moving forward? AE: I would love to incorporate more fitness- and wellness-inspired content into what I'm posting every day. That was such a big part of my life during that time, and people were actually really interested in seeing the behind-the-scenes of what I was doing.
PS: Were there any self-care products or rituals you leaned on after long rehearsal days? AE: I definitely always loved taking an Epsom salt bath after a long day of recovery, then taking a good shower head to toe and making sure you're feeling good and everything's taken care of. Doing a full self-care night was always a great reset for me.
PS: You had such a strong support system cheering you on. How did having your people around you shape the experience? AE: Having everyone come out and support me was overwhelming. Especially my friends and family - in moments where I had self-doubt or days where I thought I couldn't do it or wasn't good enough to be there, they were always there lifting me up. Having that support system around me gave me the confidence to keep going and believing in myself, which is so important in moments of doubt.
PS: What's one thing "Dancing With the Stars" taught you that you want to carry into the future? AE: That you can do anything if you put your mind to it. It inspired me to try things I never thought I'd be good at if I really devoted my time to them.
