Michigan will face Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve afternoon in Orlando, but the Wolverines’ roster will be a shell of itself for the matchup, warned interim head coach Biff Poggi during an appearance Tuesday on The Stampede podcast.
The podcast that discusses all things Texas football had Poggi on to discuss the showdown between 9-3 teams who barely missed making the College Football Playoff. Poggi wasn’t shy about sharing the total fallout from the recent firing of head coach Sherrone Moore. Right now, the Wolverines don’t have a permanent head coach, and Poggi believes that’s going to create a situation where a long list of players opt out for the bowl game that kicks off in 1 week.
“We’re not able to give anybody a financial agreement because we don’t have a permanent coach,” Poggi said. “… There’s a really good chance that we’re going to have many more opt-outs for the (Citrus Bowl).”
Poggi said during his appearance on the podcast that there could be close to 30 players on the Wolverines’ roster who won’t end up playing in the Citrus Bowl.
When Texas and Michigan kick things off at 3 p.m. ET on ABC on the final day of 2025, it will likely signal a wave of uncertainty surrounding the proud Michigan program going into 2026. Poggi knows the exodus is coming, and he’s already planning on it for the bowl matchup.
