Former Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken has reportedly emerged as a person of interest in the Michigan head coaching search.
According to a report on Wednesday from FootballScoop’s John Brice, Michigan has “begun vetting” Monken for its vacant position. The school is expected to talk with Monken this week, according to the report.
Monken had extensive experience at both the college and NFL levels prior to being hired by Kirby Smart. He joined the Bulldogs as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in 2020 and spent 3 seasons working on Smart’s staff.
Under Monken’s guidance, Georgia captured national championships in 2021 and 2022. The Bulldogs beat Michigan 34-11 in the CFP semifinals during the 2021 season.
In early 2023, Monken was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as the franchise’s new offensive coordinator.
Monken is well-regarded as an offensive mind at the college level. He also checks what is seemingly an important box for Michigan — working on John Harbaugh’s staff.
Harbaugh, the brother of former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, has sent multiple assistants to Michigan over the years. Michigan previously hired Baltimore assistants Mike Macdonald (2021) and Jesse Minter (2022) to prominent positions on Harbaugh’s staff. Both of those moves worked out well for the Wolverines, who won a national title in 2023.
Michigan is also said to be circling Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm. Brohm said after Louisville’s bowl victory on Tuesday that he doesn’t “speak on other jobs” and he’s “happy with this one.”
