Creator of viral cheese grater hats says they began as unexpected revenge against Packers ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Chicagoans first saw Foam Party Hat’s grater head hat on Bears wide receiver DJ Moore in an epic locker room celebration, but it would seem the Texas company has more in common with Bears fans than many first thought.

They just wanted “revenge” against the Green Bay Packers.

Turns out, the company only began selling the cheese grater hats after the Green Bay Packers shut down their original cheese hats when the owner of the company said he received a cease-and-desist letter from the team a few years ago.

“Our lawyers said you can probably fight them, but it’d be expensive,” Manuel Rojas, CEO of Foam Party Hats, told NBC Chicago.

Little did Rojas know the demand from his next venture would shred those cheese hats.

“We decided to stop selling them and come up with a different product, and trust me this has been outselling the cheese by far,” he said.

The hats shot up in popularity over the weekend when the Bears beat the Packers in an overtime victory at Soldier Field.

After the game, Moore was seen sporting the large, grey, foam hat as coach Ben Johnson handed him the winning game ball. Caleb Williams was also spotted wearing one.

Then came Simone Biles, who was seen wearing one at Soldier Field while supporting her husband Jonathan Owens.

The next day, Rojas said business exploded.

“Sunday was madness,” he said. “I woke up and saw the orders and I was like ‘What the hell is going on!?'”

Within hours of the Bears big win over the Packers, the grater head hat had gone viral.

“I went straight to the office to print orders and told the staff to cancel everything and start making these in mass production,” Rojas said.

Since Sunday, Rojas said the company has taken nearly 4,000 orders for that hat specifically.

“I’m humbled. I’m proud, I’m really happy,” he said.

Rojas started Foam Party Hats with his mother about five years ago.

The last time the pair had national attention like this was when they took the company on the show Shark Tank.

Little did he know the Bears would complete a Christmas miracle for both fans and Rojas.

“The fact that we took that revenge toward the Packers and then we see the Bears players wearing them, this is serendipitous,” Rojas said.
