DJ Moore Shares the Motivating Factors Driving the Bears’ Success ...Middle East

I’ve long been intrigued by the things athletes say that motivate them on game day. Doubters, haters, cynics, and critics often get mentioned the most. But Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore had a different angle when discussing what has pushed this team to excellence in 2025.

Kudos to CHGO’s Adam Jahns for a potential Quote of the Year pull from DJ Moore:

Bears WR DJ Moore: "It got a lot to do with Virginia looking over us, and then probably Ben being on our ass every time. We don't want to go into Mondays or any day with a loss to watch the film."

DJ Moore are finding inspiration in unexpected places

DJ Moore crediting the late Virginia Halas McCaskey and first-year Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson as reasons why the Bears continue to find ways to win games that you might otherwise expect them to lose isn’t something I had on my 2025 Bears BINGO card. But perhaps DJ is onto something here, particularly when it comes to Mrs. McCaskey. There is something about playing for a dearly departed loved one that tends to give players an extra boost. I can’t put a number on it, but that is fine.

As for the Ben Johnson mention, it serves as just the latest reminder that the Ben Johnson effect is real. When I was growing up, one of the motivating factors that pushed me to do well in school was that I did not want to get chewed out by my mother. Now that I’m older, I understand where she was coming from as she tried to strike a balance between being strict and fair while riding my behind during the school year. I didn’t fully get it when I was living it in the moment, but I get it now. And I imagine Bears players feel similarly because that would make sense to me.

STOP OBSESSING OVER CALEB WILLIAMS’ COMPLETION PERCENTAGE

In the end, reading the DJ Moore quote reminded me of a storyline from last year when team captains Caleb Williams, Cole Kmet, and Marcedes Lewis went to then-offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and asked to be coached harder. Bears players pushing for more from their coaches was a theme in 2024. And that those coaches didn’t respond helps explain why all but two assistants from last year’s staff still remain with Ben Johnson in his first year as a head coach. The Bears wanted accountability. They are getting it from their new coach. And it is tough to argue with the results. Eleven wins, a playoff berth, and perhaps more on the horizon.
