Here’s How the Chicago Bears Can Make the Playoffs ...Middle East

How many times have you watched that game-winning DJ Moore touchdown catch? It’s OK, this is a judgment-free zone. Personally, I’ve lost count. So am taking a moment to catch up on Chicago Bears playoff scenarios on this glorious NFL Sunday.

Chicago Bears playoff scenarios after beating the Green Bay Packers in Week 16

This is how Chicago’s football team can punch its ticket to the dance:

After winning on Saturday night, the Bears can clinch a postseason berth (their first since 2020!) as soon as today with a Pittsburgh Steelers win against the Detroit Lions. Does that mean we have to root for Aaron Rodgers? Technically, yes. This is one of those “the enemy of the enemy is my friend” moments for Bears fans. I’m not sure how I’ll wrap my mind around doing so, but the game does not get going until 3:25 p.m. CT. So at least I have time to piece myself together.

Chicago can clinch its first NFC North title since 2018 by winning one of its final two games of the regular season. Bears playoff scenarios will clear up if the team can lock down the division crown with a win in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football or in Week 18 against the Detroit Lions. Making the playoffs is cool. But winning the division and hosting a playoff game at Soldier Field would be magical.

If the Bears don’t win either of their last two games, they can still win the division if the Packers lose one of their last two games (at home vs. the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, at the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18) *AND* if the Lions lose one of their next two games (at home vs. Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16, on the road at Minnesota Vikings in Week 17). There are still Bears playoff scenarios if they don’t win the division. A doomsday scenario exists where the Bears could fall into the wild-card bracket. Via the Bears’ official website:

If the Bears don’t win the division, they could still make the playoffs as a wild card. All three NFC wild cards will come from the NFC North and NFC West, meaning that six teams are competing for five spots (two division champions and three wild cards): the Bears (11-4), Packers (9-5-1) and Lions (8-6) in the North and the Seahawks (12-3), Rams (11-4) and 49ers (10-4) in the West.

Six teams duking it out for five playoff spots is insane. But I’m not even thinking about it. I’m in a wind-and-get-in mindset. And I imagine Bears are there, too.
