The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has released more files from its investigation into convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The move comes after Donald Trump signed a bill last month that ordered the department to release thousands of pages of documents related to criminal investigations into Epstein by 19 December.
Prior to the release, Trump was pressured to open up the files to public scrutiny from his supporters, Democrats and Republican Party officials.
During his presidential campaign last year, Trump promised to release the Epstein files, before U-turning and branding them a Democratic “hoax”.
He later changed course again and backed them being released.
Trump previously said he believed releasing the files would reveal “the truth about these Democrats” and their associations with Epstein
Documents from Epstein’s estate had been released into the public domain over the past few years – such as a birthday book containing a note to Epstein bearing Trump’s name, which he denies writing.
Today’s release of files comes after the latest batch of photos and documents obtained from Epstein’s estate was released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, 18 December.
They included images of Epstein surrounded by young women and verses from a novel about a paedophile written onto unidentified women or girls’ skin.
The batch of documents released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee is not from the so-called Epstein files.
