Kirby Moore if off to an awkward start at Washington State.
During his introductory press conference on Wednesday, the former Mizzou offensive coordinator accidentally miss-identified the conference Washington State will be playing in next season.
“Moving forward, the time is now at Washington State to be the leader in the new Mountain West Conference,” Moore said.

Moore’s mistake was noted by former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen, who is now the head coach at UNLV. Mullen’s UNLV program will be staying back in the Mountain West next season while Boise State, San Diego State and others head to the Pac-12.
Here’s Mullen’s comment:
Welcome to the @MountainWest @KirbMoore If you want to play with the best this is the place to be.
— Dan Mullen (@CoachDanMullen) December 17, 2025Moore is embarking on his first head coaching job after spending the last few years as an assistant at Mizzou. He’s a Washington native and will be taking over for Jimmy Rogers, who left Pullman for the head coaching job at Iowa State earlier this offseason.
