HILTON, N.Y. — A house in Hilton is spreading holiday cheer and giving back to the community with its dazzling light show. Since 2019, Susan King has decorated her yard on Bailey Road with all kinds of light displays and figures.
Six years later, it has grown into a popular winter wonderland for all to enjoy. King uses the display to raise money for two local churches, St. Paul Lutheran and Anchor Baptist.
“Christmas, by far, is my favorite holiday. It always has been since I’ve been a child. And I think it’s because of the magic of Christmas. Christmas always brings joy, magic,” King said.
‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Because the fun is outside, decorated with care. In hopes that st nicholas soon would be there. With you as the driver, so lively and quick. In but a moment, you’ll see old Saint Nick.
“It’s the kids. The kids get me the best, I guess because they have these large, large super smiles and they’re gleaming and it’s the magic of Christmas and I think everybody should have a magic of Christmas,” King said.
More rapid than eagles, visitors they came, volunteers whistled, shouted, and called them by name.
“There’s something for everyone. Your hobby, your interest. There’s just something for everyone. It was a lovely evening driving through here,” said Wendy Ransom, a visitor.
Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! To the top of the driveway. Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away in your personal valet.
King and her helpers start putting this all together in August. The final show is on Christmas. You can see the show between 6 and 8 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights. The show lights up on Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m. On Christmas Night, the show will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It costs $8 to see the holiday display.
