ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The holiday season is here. Several holiday-themed events are happening around the Rochester area on Thursday. Here’s your guide.
Final Holidays at the Market
The final Holidays at the Market takes place on Thursday night. It’s the fourth market of the season, filling the Rochester Public Market with holiday shopping and activities. The others took place on Sundays.
The Thursday market runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Shoppers can find fresh-cut Christmas trees, wreaths, handcrafted items, speciality foods and drinks, clothing, jewellery, and other items. There will also be visits with Santa in the market’s indoor “B” shed from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can also enjoy carriage rides from 6 to 9 p.m.
The holiday cookie contest also returned this year. Amateur and professional bakers entered their best baked goods for a chance to win Market Gift Tokens. Entries have closed for this year and winners will be announced on the Market’s website and social media.
Fifth night of Hanukkah celebration
Thursday marks the fifth night of Hanukkah. The Jewish holiday celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and religious freedom.
The Rochester area is marking Hanukkah by lighting large outdoor menorahs. The Fairport Village Hall on 31 South Main Street is hosting a menorah lighting at 5 p.m. on Thursday. There will be donuts and latkes. Hanukkah lasts for eight nights and ends at sundown on Monday, Dec. 22.
Roc Holiday Village (through Sunday, Dec. 28)
Roc Holiday Village continues on Thursday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in downtown Rochester. The seventh annual holiday celebration includes shopping, ice skating, visits with Santa, food, and more.
The free holiday village will stay open on Wednesdays through Sundays, except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, through Sunday, Dec. 28. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
