Mercy Flight of Buffalo plans to acquire Finger Lakes Ambulance ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — One of the Finger Lakes region’s largest ambulance services could soon become part of Mercy Flight.

The air and ground medical transport nonprofit Mercy Flight, Inc. of Buffalo has signed an agreement to acquire Finger Lakes Ambulance EMS. Mercy Flight says it aims to expand access to high-quality emergency services. Now, it’s up to the Finger Lakes and Monroe Livingston Regional EMS Councils and the state’s Department of Health to approve the deal.

For the past five years, Mercy Flight and Finger Lakes Ambulance have worked together. However, like many emergency medical organizations nationwide, they’ve had to navigate staffing shortages, a rise in call volume, a rise in operating costs, and unstable reimbursement structures. In a statement, Mercy Flight said both leadership teams agreed merge to better address these challenges.

Mercy Flight says it doesn’t foresee any changes to its air ambulance services and will continue to collaborate with Mercy Flight Central. That’s a separate nonprofit helicopter ambulance service that covers the Finger Lakes region.

Mercy Flight operates helicopter bases in Buffalo, Olean, Springville, and Batavia. Finger Lakes Ambulance covers 1,200 square miles with about 100 staff members.
