Doha, Dec. 17 (SANA) Head of the Syrian Central Authority for Supervision and Inspection (CASI), Amer al-Ali, met Tuesday in Doha with a delegation from the Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR) Initiative to discuss strengthening cooperation in asset recovery and building institutional capacity to combat corruption.
Both sides discussed strategies to support Syria’s asset recovery efforts, emphasizing the importance of technical expertise and knowledge-sharing to bolster CASI’s work in fighting corruption and protecting public funds.
The StAR Initiative, a joint effort by the World Bank and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, helps developing countries recover stolen assets and eliminate safe havens for corrupt funds. It works to encourage international cooperation, and provide tools for freezing, confiscating, and returning illicit wealth.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (COSP11) in Doha, which runs from December 15 to 19, 2025.
Earlier, al-Ali spoke with SANA, stating that CASI is increasing its oversight of government institutions, with a particular focus on combating corruption through clear, transparent, and professional procedures.
