The best running back prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft is officially taking his talents to the next level.
Notre Dame standout Jeremiyah Love made it official. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shares the announcement, which was made on Love’s Instagram page:

In an alternate universe, Jeremiyah Love would be preparing for a College Football Playoff game where he could showcase his skills after capping his junior season with a season that led him to become a Heisman Trophy finalist. Instead, Notre Dame was left out of the playoff. And with the Fighting Irish opting against playing a bowl game, the only thing left for Love to do was say goodbye to the South Bend, Ind., campus and head to the pros.
Love finished the 2024 season with 1,125 rushing yards and 17 ground scores on 163 carries. In his three seasons with the Fighting Irish, the talented back averaged 6.7 yards per carry and scored 42 total touchdowns. There has long been an expectation that Jeremiyah Love would be a first-round pick. Heck, there was a time when NFL Draft pundits were sending him to the Chicago Bears in way-too-early mock drafts. However, a 10-win (and counting!) season for the Bears and Love’s continually rising stock will likely put him out of range for Chicago to snag him.

For what it’s worth, Matt Rooney’s latest BN mock draft has Love going to the Kansas City Chiefs with the 12th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. I wonder if there is anything the running back prospect can do between now and when the first round of the draft opens up to get into the top-10. Teams have moved away from taking running backs high in the first round. However, we just saw Ashton Jeanty land in Las Vegas with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jeanty was joined by Omarion Hampton as one of two first-round running backs in this most recent draft.
With the Bears playing well in 2025, I haven’t done much diving into NFL Draft prospects. But now that we are starting to see players like Love declare their intent to enter next year’s class, I will keep my eyes peeled for intriguing prospects and potential Bears fits. If Chicago was set to draft higher, then I’d be intrigued by the possibility of adding Jeremiyah Love in the draft. But it does not seem like it is meant to be at this time. Of course, we all know a lot can change in the 128 days between now and draft day. So stay tuned.
