Florida is looking to make a big splash in its pursuit of a new wide receivers coach, and it’s targeting a name from a rival SEC school in that pursuit.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported on Sunday afternoon that Florida has its eyes on Auburn wide receivers coach Marcus Davis for the same post in Gainesville in 2026.
New head coach Jon Sumrall is piecing together his first staff at Florida, and according to Zenitz’s report it wants what Auburn already has at the wide receiver coaching position.

He has recruited and coached standout wide receivers at Auburn like Cam Coleman and was rated the No. 6 recruiter in the nation for his work in bringing in the 2024 recruiting class, according to Zenitz’s report on Sunday.
An Auburn alum, Davis has been the wide receivers coach there since late in 2022. He was a receiver himself on the Plains from 2013-16, helping the Tigers capture an SEC crown and make an appearance in the national championship game when he was a freshman. Auburn lost that national title game to Florida State, but Davis immediately made himself part of the fabric of the Tigers program. Davis was also the Auburn team captain as a senior.
Florida isn’t aiming to change Davis’s rich past at Auburn. It just wants what Davis brings to the table as a coach — and, just as important, a big-time recruiter.
Before he arrived back at his alma mater as wideout coach, Davis was the wide receivers coach at Georgia Southern.
