Phoebe Arbuckle from Edinburgh, Scotland, has verbally committed to the admission process* at Princeton University for fall 2026. Arbuckle trains with Warrender Baths Club and specializes in distance freestyle.
At this weekend’s Scottish National Short Course Championships, Arbuckle swept the 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 free titles with lifetime bests in all three events. On Friday, she opened the meet with an 8:34.76 in the 800 free, taking 8.9 seconds off her previous personal best. The next night, she came from behind to win the 400 free in 4:10.54, beating her old time by 5.9 seconds. Sunday saw a new PB in the 1500, as she won with 16:25.65, an improvement of 10.4 seconds.
At the 2025 Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships in July, Arbuckle won the bronze medal in the Women’s 17/18 Yrs 400m Freestyle, going 4:17.66 to lower her PB by .6. She had begun the 2025 long-course season with a lifetime best of 4:20.92. At the April 2025 version of the meet, she clocked PBs in the 200 free (2:05.17), 800 free (8:48.97, -7.1 year-over-year), 1500 free (16:48.46, -11.1 year-over-year), and 100 back (1:07.17).
In September, Arbuckle and Dean Fearn were named Scottish Swimming’s Junior Swimmers of the Year. “Distance specialist Phoebe, coached by Bruce Halloran at Warrender, picked up Scottish Senior titles at both the 2024 Scottish Short Course Championships and the 2025 Scottish National Championships.”
Arbuckle’s times, converted, would have scored in the top 4 of the 1650 free, the ‘A’ final of the 500 free, and the ‘B’ final of the 200 free at the 2025 Ivy League Women’s Championships. She will join swimmers Lanie Tietjen, Angela Kadoorie, Lillyana Caples, and Victoria Edgar, and diver Avaleigh Westfall in the Princeton class of 2030.
