‘70s Classic Rocker’s Music in New Hip-Hop Hit Divides Fans ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The “Take the Money and Run” singer’s 1977 No. 2 hit “Fly Like an Eagle” has turned up in “It’s Time,” a new track by hip-hop legend’s Nas & DJ Premier. The song is sampled so heavily in the track that the Steve Miller Band receives a featuring credit.

Miller recently took to the Steve Miller Band’s official Instagram account to acknowledge the track. “Happy to be part of @nas and @djpremier's new album Light-Years. Here’s “It’s Time” featuring the Steve Miller Band. Wishing them great success! @massappealrecs,” he posted on Dec. 12.

Among those praising the mashup was rapper/DJ D-Nice. “Never in my life did I think THEE Steve Miller would post about anything hiphop! Man, I love life! Sir, you are part of the culture,” he wrote.

“@dnice@eminem did it earlier in 24 hence @nas followed. It ain’t paying respect. It’s just using and being able to add a few more 0’s,” the fan wrote, suggesting that Nas and DJ Premier are just trying to cash in, following Eminem’s success sampling a Miller track.

“Incredible flip of a legendary song. Y’all are the best for clearing it ??????,” added another fan.

Other fans, however, rightly pointed out that this is not the first time that Miller’s “Fly Like an Eagle” has been sampled in a hip-hop track.

“Been sampled many, many times ?,” another added.

“That’s awesome of Steve Miller to be open minded to a hip hop artist. The Joker and other songs of his have been breakbeat records since the beginning of hip hop. Steve Miller band that soul flavor too!!!????????,” another fan added, pointing out that Miller’s music has long been a source of samples for hip-hop tracks in the past.

Other songs that sample “Fly Like an Eagle” include N.W.A’s 1988 track “Gangsta Gangsta” and Biz Markie’s “Nobody Beast the Biz” from 1987.

Outkast and the Beastie Boys took things a step further, sampling multiple Miller tracks in their “Claimin’ True” and “3-Minute Rule,” respectively, while Luniz zeroed in on “Jungle Love” for 1995’s “I Got 5 on It.”
