The Ivy League university issued an alert on Sunday evening warning students of an “active shooter” near its Barus and Holley engineering building.
“Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice,” the notice said.
The university also warned of “shots fired near Governor street”.
Providence Police urged shelter in place or avoid the area until further notice.
