ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sharply colder air is once again arriving in Western New York, and this bitter cold will be felt by all of us as we finish the weekend. The arctic temperatures will once again “reinvigorating” the lake effect snow bands off Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It is likely that communities directly east of both lakes will find white-out conditions over the next 24 hours, but most of the Rochester area should miss out on most of this intense snowfall. However, around midday Sunday this Lake Ontario snow squall may briefly move inland which could produce a brief burst of snow. It appears the duration will not last long, reducing any new accumulation to an inch or less for the day. The exception will be Eastern portions of Wayne County which will likely see two to six inches by Sunday night.
Tonight, look for mostly cloudy skies with a passing flurry for the evening, then some breaks in the cloudy cover late tonight. The temperature will fall to near 10 degrees, and communities south of Rochester will likely get into the single digits by morning. Sunday will be mainly cloudy with a burst of snow around midday. The accumulation should be an inch or less for most of the Rochester immediate area, but visibility will be reduced for a short amount of time. The temperature will be in the teens with the wind chill in the single digits.
