FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Autumn Fitch, a standout basketball player, comes from a family with deep basketball roots. Her father, the boys coach at Fairport, has represented Team USA on the sidelines. Fitch said her father’s influence has been significant in her development as a player.

Despite having a strong support system at home, Fitch faces challenges due to her hip dysplasia, which may require surgery in the future. For now, she continues to play and manage her condition.
“It’s probably matured me pretty quick, having to think about taking care of myself as well as wanting to be the best that I can in the sport,” Fitch said.
While her teammates focus on the current season, Fitch is already contemplating her future beyond basketball. Her injury has inspired her to consider a career as a Physician Assistant.
“Yeah it did start around my injury, actually, because I got to see some of the things they do and it was really cool,” she said.
Autumn Fitch remains dedicated to her role as a captain, aiming to lead her team to another Sectionals title.
“It’s been such a big part of my life, that I kind of put a lot of pressure on this season, but I also just want to enjoy it to its fullest. It will be emotional when this season’s over, but I think it’ll be a great one,” Fitch said.
As for the future, Fitch has considered following in her father’s footsteps by coaching.
“I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it. Nothing’s for sure, but it’s definitely crossed my mind,” she said.
