Details are starting to emerge over what allegedly happened on Wednesday, December 10, after former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was fired and before he was taken into police custody that afternoon.
Moore, 39, was fired over an alleged “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, according to a statement released by athletic director Warde Manuel. The two had previously denied any personal relationship.
“[Moore] broke into the employee’s home in Pittsfield Township, which is between Ann Arbor and Saline, Michigan, grabbed a knife, apparently, and threatened to harm her and harm himself,” journalist and Michigan athletics insider John U. Bacon said on Thursday, December 11, in an appearance on Good Day Detroit.
Police responded to a 911 call from the staffer’s residence at around 4 p.m. local time on Wednesday, according to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ. The woman on the call claimed Moore had been “stalking her for months,” but it is not clear whether she was the staffer in question.

Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 4:10 p.m., and a man was taken into custody. The Detroit News reports that the man was Moore.
Minutes later, Manuel, 57, released a statement announcing Moore had been fired.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel said. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Speaking on Thursday, Bacon also laid out the timeline of the university’s investigation into Moore and the staffer, which he said was conducted over the summer.

“Both denied any relationship,” Bacon said. “That story changed yesterday morning when she went [to the] administration office with the receipts: the text messages, the emails, documents and so on, laying out the details of their relationship and the conflicts thereof.”
Bacon added that because both parties told the university there was nothing going on between them, there was little Michigan could do other than “respond to rumors.”
No charges have been filed against Moore, but he spent the night in jail and has not been released as of Thursday afternoon.

“I don’t think there’s any way to avoid that,” Bacon said of the likelihood that Moore would eventually face charges. “I know this is a relationship, however once you break and enter someone’s home and it involves potential threats … I’m very confident that the police are investigating this right now and charges are very likely.”
Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, December 12.
“Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details,” the Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday. “Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as possible.”
