Six Flags to Close Two Iconic Rides—One Dating Back 70 Years ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The first to go: Magic Flyer, a pint-size steel coaster that’s been delighting young riders for roughly 70 years. Before it ever reached Valencia, the coaster lived at Beverly Park, the beloved Los Angeles kiddie park that operated from 1943 to 1974 and famously inspired Walt Disney as he began imagining Disneyland.

A county permit lists Magic Flyer’s demolition value at $10,000, signaling a full removal rather than refurbishment.

A second county filing indicates the park also plans to tear down a steel swing ride, believed to be Tweety’s Escape, a Looney Tunes–themed attraction that opened in 1985. Riders load into oversized birdcages decorated with Granny, Tweety and Sylvester before the structures lift off the ground and rotate in a slow, swaying circle. Tweety’s Escape is also valued at $10,000 for removal.
