Southern Utah Swimming Association’s Chesney Bonner has committed to Brigham Young University for the fall of 2026.
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Brigham Young University! I’m so thankful that I have been given this opportunity and can’t wait to see where I will go! I’d like to thank my family for being so supportive of this decision and being my best support system! I’m also thankful for all my coaches along the way at Susa for guiding me on this journey! Thank you to the BYU coaches for seeing my potential and giving me this opportunity! GO COUGS!
Bonner hails from Saint George, Utah, and represents Desert Hills High School. As a junior, Bonner won the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly at the Utah 4A State Championship. She clocked 56.29 in the 100 back and 55.80 in the 100 fly, setting best times in both. She has since bettered each of those times.
One of her best short-course showings came at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin in March. There, she set many best times that still stand today, including the 50 free (23.99), 100 free (51.34), 100 fly (55.61), 200 fly (2:04.33), and 100 back (56.04).
She also holds notable bests of 1:51.77 in the 200 free from the Western Zone Senior Championships in April. At that same meet, she logged best times in the 1000 free (10:31.49), 1650 free (17:17.01), 200 back (2:03.42), and 400 IM (4:31.78).

At those championships, Bonner would have finished 38th in the 100 free, 44th in the 200 free, and 34th in the 200 fly.
Bonner has swum most of her best times in the last calendar year, a sign of a positive trajectory for the BYU Cougars.
