A minor earthquake struck Piedmont on Monday afternoon, hours after after a swarm of rattlers to the east in San Ramon.
The 2.9 quake was centered off Dawes Street in Piedmont, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered just less than three miles underground, the agency said, causing houses and buildings to jolt around the small town and the surrounding Oakland neighborhoods.
The fault appeared to be centered on the Hayward Fault, which runs through the East Bay. There were no immediate reports of severe damage from the temblor.
Earlier on Monday, dozens of small quakes hit San Ramon, registering between magnitudes 1.5 and 3.7, the geological survey said.
