The Chicago Bears wasted no time ruling out wide receiver Rome Odunze on Friday. Chicago’s leading receiver, and quarterback Caleb Williams’ most-targeted pass-catching option, will miss Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers with a foot injury. Odunze did not practice all week, so it makes sense that the Bears wouldn’t throw him out onto the field while dealing with an injury after missing a week’s worth of practice sessions. Of course, this opens questions about how long Odunze will be out of action.
Thankfully, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero has the scoop:
Bears WR Rome Odunze, who was ruled out for Sunday’s game against Green Bay, has been playing with a stress fracture in his foot, per sources. At this point, Odunze just needs rest and is week-to-week. The belief is it’s nothing long term and he’ll be back soon. pic.twitter.com/mBJwxPN2qz
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) December 5, 2025Rome Odunze dealing with a stress fracture in his foot isn’t ideal. And it is unsettling to know that Odunze has been playing through the injury. With that being said, it is admirable that a key player has tried to tough it out for the sake of the team. I appreciate Rome’s willigness to gut it out in tough times. But seeing how his production has dropped in recent weeks, it suddenly makes sense as to why a downturn in his play seemingly popped out of nowhere. Hopefully, he gets the necessary rest and will be back soon. In the meantime, Odunze is considered week-to-week with his foot injury.

The reality is that the Bears’ offense won’t be the same without Rome Odunze, who leads the team in targets (90), catches (44), receiving yards (661), and tied for the team-lead in total touchdowns (6). But at least this offense has some intriguing players who can pick up the slack in his absence. It’ll be all hands on deck until Odunze’s return.
