No. 2 Arizona routed No. 20 Auburn 97-68 at McKale Center on Saturday for another ranked win to continue its undefeated season.

The Wildcats improved to 8-0 on the year with their fourth top 20 win of the season and will likely be No. 1 in the AP Poll on Monday with No. 1 Purdue getting blown out by No. 1o Iowa State earlier on Saturday.

Freshman Koa Peat led the way with 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting for Arizona, and four other Wildcats scored in double figures, as Brayden Burries and Jaden Bradley each had 16 points, Ivan Kharchenkov added 12 and Anthony Dell’Orso finished with 11.

After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes, the Wildcats used a key 15-0 run to take a 39-21 lead as Auburn missed 10 shots in a row.

Auburn ended the first half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 44-32 as Arizona struggled with turning the ball over which led to easy points in transition for Auburn.

But Arizona opened the second half on a 16-2 run and continued to pull away at one time leading by as many as 31.

Arizona’s defense held Auburn to 21 of 63 (33%) from the field and 6 of 25 (24%) from 3.

Saturday’s win was the largest over a ranked opponent in program history, with the previous being a 25-point victory over Wisconsin in 2023.

Following the ankle injury he suffered last Saturday, Kharchenkov was once again in the starting lineup and finished with 12 points, eight assists and five rebounds in 29 minutes.

Arizona was last ranked No. 1 in the country almost exactly two years ago when the Wildcats claimed the top spot on Dec. 4, 2023.

In program history, Arizona has spent 39 weeks at No. 1 in the AP Poll, which is the ninth-most all-time.
