A 65-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash after a mail truck driver lost control and drifted into oncoming traffic Saturday.
Around 10:07 a.m., Des Plaines police said their officers responded to a crash involving two cars on the 1700 block of Mannheim Road.
Leonard Moore, 48, was driving a United States Postal Service truck southbound on Mannheim Road when he drifted into the northbound lanes and struck a vehicle driven by Laurie Jensen of Mt. Prospect.
Moore claimed he temporarily lost control of the vehicle, causing him to strike Jensen’s vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Sebring, police said.
Both drivers were taken to a local hospital.
Jensen, 65, died from her injuries at the hospital, authorities said.
Moore was issued a citation for improper lane usage and is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at the Skokie Courthouse, police said.
The incident remains under investigation.
