ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Faith leaders and officials kicked off Human Rights Week in Monroe County with a special proclamation on Friday morning.

Human Rights Week is an annual celebration marking the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Dec. 10, 1948, following the Holocaust.

“The Universal Declaration of Human Rights on itself does not solve every injustice,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “But what it does do is it gives humanity a common foundation – a promise that dignity is not earned or granted by governments, but it’s something that’s inherent in each and every one of us.”

Events are happening around town all week to celebrate, including a film screening, a concert, and a sock drive. To see the list of events, click here.
