ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We have issued a Yellow Alert through today for lake snow, frigidly cold temperatures and breezy winds. No major accumulations expected with the snow, with the most being in the persistent snow showers southeast of Lake Ontario this afternoon. Only up to an inch is possible. Winds will gust out of the northwest up to 35 MPH, which will make the air feel like the single digits at times. Untreated sidewalks and roads will be icy with a coating of snow on top, making the ice hard to spot, whereas treated roads will just be wet. Either way, be cautious if you’ll be outside or on the roads today.
High pressure moves in tomorrow which will stop the snow and even give us some sun, but it will still be frigidly cold. Wind chill values could dip below zero. Maybe stay inside and drink some hot chocolate.
This weekend snow showers return. It will be some more lake flakes Saturday afternoon but nothing major, then some slightly more widespread snow combined with lake flakes late Sunday morning through the afternoon. A few inches are possible in total this weekend but we’ll update you with the snowfall forecast as we get closer.
Below normal temperatures continue over the next 6-10 days.
