The Israeli army shelled the Bat al Warde hill area near the town of Beit Jinn (a town in the southwestern countryside of Damascus, near the occupied Syrian Golan Heights), days after an Israeli army patrol was targeted in the area, according to the state run al- Ikhbariya channel on Wednesday, 3 December.
A source from Beit Jinn, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told Enab Baladi that the road hit by the Israeli strikes is one of the routes used by Israeli army vehicles and armored vehicles during incursions it carries out around the town.
The source added that the attack was carried out with three shells following intensive monitoring by Israeli drones over the area.
For his part, the military correspondent of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan), Itay Blumental, said on his account on the X platform that the Israeli army “detected yesterday, through surveillance means, a vehicle burying an object in the ground in an open area near the Syrian town of Beit Jinn.”
He pointed out that “mortar shells were fired to neutralize the suspicion of a possible explosive device.”

The town of Beit Jinn has been in a constant state of alert since 28 November, with continuous overflights of drones and helicopters in its skies.
The Israeli army had killed 13 civilians, including women and children, and injured 24 others in shelling on the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, while six Israeli soldiers were wounded with serious, moderate, and minor injuries during the clashes.
The shelling came after the Israeli army carried out an incursion into the town to arrest a number of young men, which led to clashes between young men from the town and the Israeli army.
Israeli accounts of who carried out the attack were contradictory, as Israel first said that those targeted belonged to al Jamaa al Islamiyya, a Lebanese Islamist group, then later accused Syrian intelligence of being behind the attacks.
A “full fledged war crime”
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Syria condemns the “criminal and blatant attack” that led to direct clashes after residents of the town confronted the attacking patrol and forced it to withdraw from Syrian territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that after the occupation forces failed in their incursion, they went on to deliberately and brutally shell the town of Beit Jinn, which “constitutes a full fledged war crime,” after the Israeli forces committed a “horrific massacre” that claimed the lives of more than ten civilians, including women and children, and caused a large wave of displacement as a result of the continued “barbaric and deliberate shelling” of civilians’ homes, according to the statement.
Several states and organizations condemned the Israeli attacks on the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, including Britain, Turkey, Kuwait, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations, Qatar, Jordan, the Palestinian movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria.
US concern
The administration of US President Donald Trump expressed concern that repeated Israeli strikes inside Syria could destabilize the country and undermine hopes of reaching a security agreement between Israel and Syria, according to two “senior” US officials quoted by the news site Axios on 2 December.
The US envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, and senior officials in President Donald Trump’s administration held “difficult” talks with their Israeli counterparts, the US officials said, warning of the consequences of such actions for regional stability.
A senior US official said that “Syria does not want problems with Israel, this is not Lebanon,” drawing a distinction between recent Israeli strikes in the two countries, but added that Netanyahu sees “ghosts everywhere,” as he put it.
The officials are trying to send a clear message to Netanyahu that he needs to stop these actions, which could lead him to “destroy himself,” and that if he continues he will lose a “huge” diplomatic opportunity and turn the new Syrian government into an “enemy.”
Supporting Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa’s efforts to stabilize Syria and encouraging him to engage in a peace process with Israel are two key elements of the Trump administration’s strategy in the Middle East, the officials explained.
The US officials also voiced anger because, in their view, Netanyahu’s approach to dealing with Syria is based on a principle of “shoot first, then ask questions later.”
