ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State Police announced over 13,000 tickets issued statewide during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period.
State Police say 247 people were arrested for DWI in the state, and troopers investigated over 1,200 crashes, including two deadly crashes during the enforcement period.
The initiative started on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and continued through Sunday, Nov. 30. During the campaign, troopers did sobriety checkpoints, had additional DWI patrols, and ticketed drivers who were using phones.
In the Finger Lakes, 1,521 total tickets were issued by troopers for various violations, and 450 speeding tickets were issued in the region.
According to State Police, over 4,400 speeding tickets were issued statewide during the period. In 2024, State Police say they issued over 12,800 total tickets during the Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period.
