Victor Johansson continued his blistering start to the meet with another Swedish Record, hacking over ten seconds off his previous standard in the short course 1500 free. Entering as the #7 seed, he is the second-fastest swimmer into tomorrow night’s final after posting 14:23.98, just 0.03 seconds behind top seed Zalan Sarkany.
Johansson split a remarkably consistent race, sticking close to the 2023 European Short Course champion Dan Wiffen through his swim before blasting past on the final 25 to take the heat win by half a second.
Johansson’s previous record stood at 14:34.27, set at the 2024 World Short Course Championships, where he placed 10th.
He slots in as the #24 swimmer in history in the event, and is now the second-fastest man in the world this season, just behind the aforementioned Sarkany.

This marks the Swede’s second record of the championships, after he demolished his 400 free mark in the heats yesterday. His swim of 3:37.73 took more than a second and a half off the previous mark, set all the way back in 2017. He ended up placing 5th in the final in 3:37.92, just missing his new record, as he finished less than a second off the podium.
Johansson has now set four Swedish Records this year, after resetting the 400 free and 800 free marks at the long course World Championships in Singapore this summer. All four had previously been held by the former USC swimmer.

He is the #4 seed in that event, starting on Friday, and holds the Swedish Record with a time of 7:33.01. His 800 split this morning was just seven seconds slower in 7:40.30, and he looks likely to make it a trio of records in Lublin.
