ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester Institute of Technology opened a new 39,000-square-foot research facility on Tuesday.
The facility will house cutting-edge labs focused on multiple areas, including cognitive science, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and the effects of e-cigarettes. Organizers say the focus is on developing things that will have a real-world impact.
“It’s not just doing research for the sake of research, to publish some journal articles in some obscure journal,” said Dr. Ryne Raffaelle, vice president and associate provost. “It’s really to try to develop the kinds of things that are going to make our lives better.”
The new space has room for 19 laboratories.
