During an appearance on the House of Maher podcast, Slater said stories of “toxic energy in Dancing With the Stars” could “not be further from the truth.”
“When she got eliminated, there was like an article 'Alan and Emma are fighting' [in the hallway],” Bersten said. “I didn't even see it. But my mom's like, ‘Are you guys fighting?’ I was like, ‘What? What?’"
Bersten noted that the video used in one of the fake stories was the two of them walking into the studio the day after Slater’s elimination— where she was helping him.
“And I was like, you guys are like, if you're going to use a video, at least don't make it like where she's helping me!” he cracked.

Bersten noted that being on Dancing WIth the Stars is “so time-consuming that it's nice to have somebody that's going through it because they understand it.”
