ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The widespread snow from earlier Tuesday is gone, leaving most of us with a few inches of fresh white on the ground (and white knuckle driving for the morning commute). One last batch of lake snow showers coming off of Lake Ontario for the evening commute won’t last long, and should only give us another coating to less than 1″ of new snow. But, some roads may remain slick through the evening commute. The Yellow Alert will expire after the Tuesday evening commute.

Tuesday night will see a partly to mostly cloudy sky, and chilly air with temperatures dipping into the lower 20s. Wednesday will be a fairly quiet day, but some lake snow showers will once again begin to develop late in the evening and overnight. Areas west of Rochester toward Buffalo may pick up a fresh coating to an inch of snow as that Lake Erie band settles south ahead of a cold front.

This next cold front will be a powerful one, with temperatures falling through the 20s on Thursday, and wind chills dropping to near zero. In addition to the cold air, we’ll see some lake effect snow developing off of Lake Ontario. There is the potential for some of these squalls to impact either the morning or evening commute, so a Yellow Alert may go up, depending on the exact timing of the bands. In all, amounts should be fairly minor and localized, and we’ll fine tune that forecast over the next 24 hours, so check back in with the First Alert Weather Team.

Friday will be mainly snow free, but cold! Wind chills will be at or below zero for a lot of the day. The weekend will feature some scattered snow showers, but no real accumulations at this point.
