ROCHESTER, N.Y. — ROC the Day, a 24-hour online fundraiser to support over 500 nonprofits across the Rochester region, is underway.
The United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes aims to raise $1 million for nonprofits that support education, health, food assistance, human services, the arts, the environment, animals, and more. You can see a list of nonprofits and donate here.
Donations have already started to come in on Tuesday morning. Teresa O’Loughlin, chief development officer at United Way, said many nonprofits are facing an increased demand during the holiday season and are relying on the community’s generosity.
“Nonprofits are really stressed and really struggling. So every dollar we can raise today is going to help them,” she said. “And most importantly, that money goes into programming that’s going to help our community and the residents that are suffering too, especially during the holiday season when everybody needs so much and there’s so little to go around. We’re really asking people to step up and help their fellow residents and neighbors.”
Since its launch, ROC the Day has collected more than 12 million dollars for local causes.
