For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Upper Main Line YMCA’s Claire Roussakis has committed to Virginia Tech for the fall of 2027.
I am thrilled and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Virginia Tech! I would firstly like to thank God. Thank you to my family, UMLY coaches, and friends for supporting me through it all. A very special thank you to my age group coaches, Jamie and JJ, for instilling the love I have for this sport and always pushing me to do my best. I’d also like to thank the amazing VT coaching staff for giving me this great opportunity. GO HOKIES!
A West Chester, Penn., native, Roussakis is a multiple-time YMCA National Championships finalist in both short and long course. One of her best showings came at the 2024 YMCA Short Course National Championships, where she notched best times in the 50 freestyle (23.59), 100 backstroke (54.91), and 50 butterfly (25.24).
At this year’s edition of the YMCA Short Course National Championships, she logged new best times in the 50 back (24.92), 100 free (51.54), and 100 fly (55.20).
Representing Bayard Rustin High School at the 2025 PIAA 3A State Championship in March, Roussakis finished 4th in the 100 fly, clocking 56.04, and 6th in the 100 back, touching in 56.70.
Best Times SCY:
50 Free: 23.59 100 Free: 51.54 200 Free: 1:54.54 100 back: 54.91 200 Back: 2:03.88 100 Fly: 55.20The Virginia Tech women finished 9th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Roussakis’ best times, she would have finished 69th in the 50 free, 80th in the 100 free, 53rd in the 100 fly, and 40th in the 100 back.
Given her versatility across free, back, and fly, Roussakis will have plenty of options for her future postseason event schedules once she arrives at VT.
Based on last season’s Hokie women’s team, Roussakis’ times would have been 6th in the 100 back, 8th in the 100 fly, 12th in the 50 free, and tied for 12th in the 100 free.
It is realistic that she picks the 100 back and 100 fly, simply based on where she would have finished a year ago. But there is still plenty of time (including two PIAA state championship meets) to build her resume and become a strong contender before her first NCAA competition.
Roussakis joins Margot Levesque in the Virginia Tech 2027 recruiting class.
